The Arrival of the Luggage
Thursday, June 28, 2007

Yay! My luggage has finally gotten to Kenya! Its in the KVDA office waiting for me. So I will leave at 7am tomorrow with Mumbi, Mukami, and Mrs. Njeru. I'm so excited and relieved! Today was the last day of school for the other volunteers so not much teaching was going on. We had a special lunch with all the teachers. They even had sodas for us. We took lots of pictures and many kind words were said about them. They are great people. Some of the teachers mentioned that they were sure I would follow in their footsteps which I hope to do. But I'm not sure I will be as well liked as they are. They are so bubbly and fun. I'm not really like that. But their comments gave me confidence and made me feel more welcomed by them. At the end of the day a bunch of the children started teaching me Kiembu. It was GREAT! And I hope it will continue. I left school with Mumbi and Mukami and after stopping at both of our houses we made it to Mrs. Njiru's house to finish braiding Mumbi's hair. I think I will have mine done next week. It was a nice visit. Then we went to Kathenjuri so that I could learn the way and see what is available there, Mostly very small convenience shops. Its a nice yet rather strenuous walk. Not too far though. I had my first Mandazi there which tasted like a sweetened chapatti to me. When we returned it was dark which made it more difficult. Oops! I had a nice meal at home. I can understand the father quite well now. We had a less awkward conversation tonight. It was very nice!
